Brief introduction of Nangan Township

This town (Nangan) is the biggest island in Matsu and the area is physically 10.43 square kilometers and lives about 4,000 people of residents on the island. Lienchiang County government is located in this town, and after the Nangan airport built which has already become Matsu’s main transportation, political, economy and educate culture center, therefore the native of the place all calls Nangan as "this island".

This island’s shape is like a rhino, head is Fuxing Village (was called ox horn village) in east, tail is basic Siwei village (was called the west tail village) in west, regard Yuntai mountain as a principle vein, Niuchiao hill, Niupei hill etc. are present radiantly and dispersed deep through the sea, compartment numerous three wreath mountains, on facing the settlement of the Aokou tribe, like Jieshou, Fuxing, Fuwo, Qingshui, Jhuluo, Sihwei. Matsu, Jinsha, Ren-ai etc. Among them, the population of Jieshou Village is the most and Lienchiang County government is also located in here. Moreover, Fuao harbor of Fuwo Village is the sea transportation center of Matsu which has the wharf for Tai-Ma ferry and quick round.

The highest Yuntai Mountain of this town, the elevation is 248 meters that is the secondary Mountains of Matsu Island. (The highest is Bi Mountain in Beigan) However, it has already become one of the tourism spot of this town currently because of being included in one of "100 Mountains of Taiwan". You can look beyond Beigan Island, Chukuang Island and Ho Mountain in China. Therefore, it’s often make visitor unwilling to leave.

In addition of Yuntai Mountain, the most famous place in this town is North Sea Tunnel that is located in Ren-ai village. It was built at underground tunnel wharf the period of Cold War; the engineering is huge and extraordinary as if done by the spirits which make many people breathtaking. In addition, ox horn tribe, Jinsha tribe, Iron Castle, Shengtien Park, Matsu Temple, Ready For Battle, Madam's village, Matsu folk cultural object building which are also well-known tourism spot in this town.
